With school out for the summer, students are excited about a well-deserved break. However, before long, the boredom will set in as they search for activities to fill their time. Break the summer monotony with these nine activities that nourish the mind and the body.

#1: Museums

Museums are a perfect way to beat the summer heat and engage in an enriching learning experience. Last summer, the pandemic severely limited the availability of this fun summer activity. Now with almost all museums back open, your family can see history come to life, admire astonishing art, or participate in hands-on learning.

#2:  Aquariums

June 8th is World Oceans Day! A perfect way to celebrate is a trip to the aquarium. This activity is suited for all ages and allows students to learn about unique marine life and the importance of ocean conservation.

#3: Gamification Learning

Keep the mind sharp and prevent the summer slip with online learning! Gamification helps encourage creativity, boosts retention, and increases collaboration. There are countless online games and activities that promote learning and engage students in fun ways.

#4: National and State Parks

When in need of an escape, take a family trip to some of the national or state parks in your area! This activity inspires adventure as you admire scenic views and natural beauty. Additionally, as you explore the park, the whole family benefits from exercise, vitamin D, and educational aspects.

#5:   Summer Sports League

Summer is the perfect time for kids to try out a new sport or spend more time practicing their current favorites. Neighborhoods and community centers will often offer summer sports leagues or specialty camps where kids can learn, practice, and refine their skills. In addition, the benefits of being on a sports team are endless. Children have the opportunity to expel their energy through exercise and learn teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship.

#6: Set up a Small Business

It’s never too early to teach your children the value of money and hard work. Having a lemonade stand, dog walking, or doing extra chores and odd jobs for your family or neighbors are some money-making opportunities even young kids can perform. Additionally, kids can start to learn entrepreneurial skills that serve as building blocks for later in life.

#7: Backyard Camping

Going to summer camp or taking a weekend trip is not always in the cards. A great alternative is to set up camp right at home. Set up a tent in your backyard complete with sleeping bags, pillows, games, crafts, and snacks. This activity is perfect for kids who are yearning to change up their normal routine and do something fun with friends.

#8: Grow Vegetables

Take advantage of the sunny season by planting vegetables and have your kids take an active role. This activity doubles as a science experiment as it teaches students about plant biology. To make it more engaging, give each family member their plant and make it a summer-long competition. Additionally, students learn to take ownership in caring for something.

#9: Set Reading Goals

Reading is crucial to students’ learning during the summertime. Setting summer reading goals helps excite students about reading and keeps their brains active during the off-season. Whether done through a library or on your own, set rewards to incentivize completing books!

Over the summer, students must engage in activities that sharpen their minds and nourish their bodies. When you’re at a loss of what to suggest, remember to encourage activities that promote creativity, social skills, learning, problem-solving, or exercise to build happier, healthier students!
